Summary
This first lesson in PCB design with KiCad covered:
- Installing KiCad component libraries
- Navigating electronic component datasheets
- Picking and placing components using the ‘A’ and ‘P’ keybindings
- Moving, editing, rotating, and copying components with ‘M’, ‘E’, ‘R’, and ‘C’
- Deleting components with ‘DEL’
- Connecting things with wires using ‘W’
- Keeping things tidy using global labels (Ctrl-H)
- Repeating the last action intelligently with ‘INS’
- Adding a no-connect flag to a pin using ‘Q’
- Automatically annotating (numbering) the components in a schematic
- Using the Electrical Rules Check (ERC) to find potential errors
- Assigning physical footprints to schematic components
